May 18 -- Texas-Dallas, Texas Lutheran Bow Out of West Baseball
Regional
Fellow American Southwest Conference teams
Texas-Dallas and Texas Lutheran met in an elimination game on Friday
at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship regional at Hart Park
in Orange Calif. No. 28-ranked UTD came out on top 6-3 to end the
season of the No. 9-ranked Bulldogs, who were the 2007 ASC champions
and finished the regional with two wins. UTD then advanced to face
host and No. 2-ranked Chapman in the days finale. Chapman, which
had defeated UTD by one run on Thursday, dealt the Comets a 12-2 loss
that ended their season. UTD also finished the tourney with two
victories. TLU (37-10-1) and UTD (34-13) gave the ASC two of the final
four teams in the seven-team, double elimination tournament that
concludes Saturday with a title game featuring unbeaten No. 15 Pacific
Lutheran and two-time defending champion Chapman.
May 17 -- ASC Teams Texas-Dallas, Texas Lutheran Set To Meet in
Regional Baseball Play
No. 28-ranked Texas-Dallas got a complete game from
Drew Waggoner and gave host and No. 2-ranked Chapman a scare, but fell
7-6 on Thursday to suffer its first loss of the NCAA Division III
Baseball Championship regional at Hart Park in Orange Calif.
Meanwhile, No. 9-ranked Texas Lutheran the ASC champion
could not hold on to a late lead against Pacific Lutheran and lost 9-8
to set up an elimination game later in the evening. The Bulldogs
prevailed in that one against No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer, 8-7, despite
trailing 7-3 entering the top of the ninth to set up a tilt with UTD
on Friday at 3:30 local time (5:30 CST). No. 15 Pacific Lutheran and
Chapman will meet in a winners bracket game at noon. George Fox,
Austin College and Pomona-Pitzer (two losses to TLU) have been
eliminated from the tournament.
May 16 -- Texas-Dallas, Texas Lutheran Grab First Day Wins at
West Baseball Regional
No. 28-ranked Texas-Dallas opened the NCAA Division
III Baseball Championship regional being held at Hart Park in Orange
Calif., with a 5-3 win over George Fox on Wednesday, while No. 9 Texas
Lutheran followed with a ninth-inning 4-3 win over No. 21
Pomona-Pitzer, making the ASC 2-0 in the seven-team, double
elimination tournament. Starting pitcher Mark Cox went seven strong
innings for UTD and Jacob Kaase had the game-winning single for TLU.
On Thursday, UTD will take on host and two-time defending region
champion Chapman, the nations second ranked team that eliminated
George Fox 3-0 in the days finale. ASC champ TLU gets No. 15
Pacific Lutheran, a 12-4 winner over Austin College.
May 14 -- No. 9 Texas Lutheran, No. 28 Texas-Dallas Set For NCAA
D-III Baseball Championship Play
No. 9-ranked Texas Lutheran and No. 28-ranked
Texas-Dallas learned early Monday morning that they will each be
heading to Hart Park in Orange Calif., for an NCAA Divison III
Baseball Championship regional. For the third straight year, TLU
(35-8-1) earned the American Southwest Conferences automatic
playoff bid after winning the league title, while Texas-Dallas (32-11)
received an at-large bid for its first ever appearance in the national
baseball tourney. The seven-team, double elimination event that is
scheduled to begin on Wednesday and run through Sunday will be hosted
by No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Chapman (35-5).
May 7 -- Texas Lutheran Wins Third Straight ASC Baseball Title
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are headed back to the
NCAA Division III Baseball Championship after sweeping through the
American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. TLU finished
off its third straight conference title with a 6-0 win over McMurry on
Monday at UTD Baseball Complex in Richardson, Texas, behind a
complete-game shutout from freshman right-hander Logan Hull. No.
8-ranked TLU (35-8-1) secured its third straight 35-win season.
May 6 -- Texas Lutheran, McMurry Advance to Championship Game
No. 8-ranked Texas Lutheran and McMurry -- both West
Division teams -- will meet for the ASC baseball championship on
Monday at 11:00 a.m. after the results of Sundays three games at
UTD Baseball Complex in Richardson, Texas. McMurry, the No. 2 seed
from the West, opened Sundays action with an 8-1 elimination win
over Ozarks. West champion TLU then took the field with No. 21-ranked
Texas-Dallas, the host and top seed from the East. The Bulldogs got a
walk-off RBI double in the ninth inning from Josh Moreno for a 1-0
victory. That forced UTD into an elimination game against McMurry in
which the Comets fell 14-4 in eight innings. TLU needs just one win on
Monday for its third straight conference crown, while McMurry must
take two from the Bulldogs for the title and automatic berth into the
NCAA tournament.
May 5 -- Nationally-Ranked Teams Collect Extra-Inning Wins to
Open Baseball Championship Round
No. 8-ranked Texas Lutheran and No. 21 Texas-Dallas
each collected victories in 10 innings on the first day of the ASC
Baseball Championship Tournament Series Championship Round,
Saturday at UTD Baseball Complex in Richardson, Texas. West Division
champion TLU rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth to go on and
prevail 8-7 over Ozarks. East top seed and host UTD let a one-run lead
in the ninth slip away but went on to put away McMurry 4-3. Three
games 9:00 a.m., Noon and 3:00 p.m. are slated for
Sunday in the double elimination tourney before Mondays 11:00
a.m. championship game.
ASC Baseball Championship Tournament Series In Place
The schedule was released for the 2007 ASC Baseball
Championship Tournament Series, the league office announced on
Saturday. East Division top seed Texas-Dallas, No. 8-ranked and West
Division champion Texas Lutheran, Ozarks and McMurry will each host a
first-round best-of-three series beginning April 27. The winners will
advance to the championship round, set for May 4-6 at the site of the
top remaining seed from the East Division.

Baseball Crown, Becomes Only Undefeated Team Left at Any NCAA Division
Level
The University of Texas at Tyler collected a 9-2 home win over
LeTourneau University on Sunday that gave the Patriots their second
American Southwest Conference East Division baseball championship in
three seasons. Also, with a loss by top-ranked Wooster (Ohio),
Texas-Tyler (34-0, 15-0 ASC) became the only undefeated team left at
any NCAA Division level.
Jan 23 -- Texas-Tyler, Texas Lutheran Are
Favorites for Divisional Crowns in Baseball

University of Texas at Tyler and Texas Lutheran University have been
predicted to win the 2007 American Southwest Conference East Division
and West Division baseball title, respectively, by narrow margins
after a vote of each the divisions head coaches and sports
information directors as well as selected media members. Texas-Tyler
returns 17 lettermen from a 28-11 squad that finished tied for second
behind Mississippi College in the East last season, while two-time
defending ASC champion Texas Lutheran finished 35-13 overall and
reached the NCAA Division III West Regional championship game last
season.
Hardin-Simmons Duo, Texas-Tyler's Copeland,
ETBU's Cantrell Take Preseason Player Awards
The Hardin-Simmons University duo of senior third baseman Brad
Coleman and junior left-handed pitcher Dalton Rucker, along with
University of Texas at Tyler senior outfielder Clay Copeland and East
Texas Baptist University sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew
Cantrell, have received 2007 American Southwest Conference baseball
preseason player of the year honors after a vote of each divisions
head coaches and sports information directors as well as selected
media members.
