13 Conference Athletes Competing at NCAA Track & Field Championships

Thirteen student-athletes from two ASC member schools will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday-Saturday (May 23-25) at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Sul Ross State University sophomore Larry Morales qualified for the nationals in the triple jump. Morales recorded a season-best 47-11 leap at the ASC Championships, ranking him eighth entering the meet.

McMurry University sends a contingent of 12 competitors to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, three men and nine women. The Lady Indians will compete in nine of 21 events in the women's meet, and are considered to be one of the top team contenders.

The Indian men's team is led by sophomore Jerrod Cook. Cook ranks No. 8 in the hammer throw with a season-best 181-11 throw recorded at the ASC Championships. Senior Cale Melton will compete in the javelin throw, entering the meet with a No. 9 ranking of his season-best 202-2 throw at the ASC Championships. Senior sprinter Joe Poorman will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, opening the meet ranked 10th with a 14.65 time.

Senior sprinter Talitha Belcher, touted as a pre-meet athlete to watch, and junior jumper Darcell Edwards are seeded second in their specialities. Belcher posted the nation's second-fastest 100m dash time (11.89). She is also ranked fourth in the 200m dash with a 24.19 time. Edwards ranks second in both the long jump (19-4 1/4) and triple jump (40-0 1/2) with season-best jumps at the May 9 Abilene Christian meet.

Two other Lady Indians will compete in field events, senior Cheyenne Oldham in pole vault and freshman Talila Harlmon in the long jump. Oldham is No. 4 in the pole vault with a season-best 12-0 jump while Harlmon's season-best 18-7 1/4 leap ranks No. 13.

Seniors Kelly Brown, Adrienne Kerbow and Yvonne Silva join Belcher in the sprint events. Brown is scheduled to compete in both the 200m and 400m dashes, posting a season-best 24.83 (No. 10) in the 200 and a 56.52 (No. 11) in the 400. Kerbow and Silva will both run the 100m low hurdles. Kerbow lists ninth (14.65) and Silva 14th (14.79).

McMurry also qualified two sprint relay teams to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Belcher, Brown, Crystal Early and Harlmon are seeded second in the 4x100m relay (47.59). Belcher, Brown, Silva and Kelli Moeller list No. 13 (3:53.09) in the 4x400m relay.
