NCAA Indoor National Championships . . .

Brotherton Claims National Indoor Shot Put Championship; McMurry Finishes Sixth
After taking a year off from competition, McMurry University junior Cody Brotherton won the shot put national title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend (Mar. 14-15). Brotherton threw a personal-best and McMurry school record 57-2 to help lead the Indians to a program-high sixth-place finish (16.5 points) at the indoor nationals. . . . Jerrod Cook and Ryder Peacock joined Brotherton at the Indoor National Championship. Cook placed sixth in the weight throw, setting the school record with a personal-best 58-8 3/4 toss. Peacock finished fifth in the high jump after clearing 6-9 3/4. . . . Around the Conference . . .

Mississippi College freshman Matthew Manning finished third in the 5000-m run at the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational on March 8. Manning posted a 15:44.98 time. On the women's side, freshman Erin Stanley posted her top times of the season with a 5:56.69 in the 1500-m run and a 2:54.91 in the 800-m run.

Both McMurry teams placed among the top teams at the Texas A&M Commerce-Delmar Brown Invitational with each the top-finishing NCAA Division III team. The MU women were third and the men fourth.

McMurry has four qualifiers for the late May NCAA-III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Darcell Edwards holds spots in the women's long jump and triple jump while Cody Brotherton (shot put), Ty Gerner (pole vault) and Jerrod Cook (hammer throw) will represent the Indian men.
