Around the Conference . . .

McMurry thrower Jerrod Cook is ranked as the nation's No. 1 performer in the hammer throw by NCAA III/Apple Raceberry Jam. Cook beat several NCAA-II competitors at the Abilene Christian Univ./Oliver Jackson Open with a toss of 185-feet (Mar. 22). He holds the conference's best hammer throw distance at 186-10 during the March 8 meet at South Plains College.

Several McMurry athletes join Jerrod Cook as top-ranked performers in their respective events. Jumper Darcell Edwards is ranked first in the nation in her specialities, the long jump and triple jump. Cody Brotherton, who re-set the school shot put mark at 56-1.25, is first in the shot put while Ty Gerner lists No. 1 in the pole vault with a 15-6.25 effort.

Mississippi College sophomore Angela Crane improved on her season-best toss in the javelin, throwing for 109-2 and a third-place finish at Saturday's Emory University D-III meet (Mar. 22). Crane bettered her previous season-best by eight feet.

Sprinter Crystal Early posted a season and conference-best 26.69 in the 200-meter dash to place eighth at the ACU/Oliver Jackson Open (Mar. 22). Early contributed a great leg on McMurry's 400-m relay team to help the Indians to a fifth-place finish.
