Around the Conference Report . . .

Austin College (0-30, 0-12 ASC): Catcher Scott Orrell leads AC with a hot .396 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage. The freshman has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 11-for-22 (.500) over the stretch. . . . After playing four non-conference games last week, the Kangaroos hit the ASC road with a three-game set at LeTourneau Friday and Saturday (Apr. 11-12).

Concordia-Austin (23-10, 14-4 ASC): The Tornados won two of three in last weekend's West Division showdown at #1-ranked Texas Lutheran to close the gap on the division-leading Bulldogs (Apr. 4-5). . . . CUA stretched its conference win streak to 10 games before dropping the TLU finale 8-4 on Saturday. . . . Tim Gardner has an ASC-best 43 RBI.

East Texas Baptist (21-9, 11-7 ASC): The Tigers swept Ozarks last weekend (Apr. 4-5) to stay in third-place in the ASC East. ETBU trails second-place UT Dallas and a conference tournament berth by a game. . . . ETBU has three mid-week non-conference single games before taking the weekend off.

Hardin-Simmons (13-15, 7-11 ASC): Outfielder Ryan Devere batted .500 (8-for-16) over the five games last week, including a red-hot .636 (7-for-11) with five RBI vs. conference and city rival McMurry (Apr. 4-5). The senior carries a three-game multiple-hit streak into Tuesday's non-conference tilt with #7 Trinity. . . . John Schlaffer tops the Cowboys with 40 RBI and six home runs while hitting .417 for the year. . . . Pitcher Kyle Tabor (4-3) has recorded 39 strikeouts over 51 innings of work.

Howard Payne (15-12, 9-6 ASC): The Yellow Jackets boast a trio of .380-plus hitters -- Richard Gutierrez (.392), Coby Richards (.389) and Javier San Miguel (.388). . . . Oscar Luna has taken 18 of his 35 hits for extra-bases, and has a team-best .575 slugging percentage. . . . HPU swept Schreiner in last weekend's West division series (Apr. 4-5) for its first 3-0 league weekend of the season.

LeTourneau (14-15, 6-9 ASC): LeTourneau had its four game win streak halted by East Division leader Mississippi College last weekend as the Choctaws took all three games in the series (Apr. 4-5). . . . Josh Ross shares the conference home run lead with 11 four-baggers this season. He is hitting .405 with 35 RBI and 30 runs scored. . . . Pitcher Demetri White has recorded 44 strikeouts on the year, fifth-best in the ASC.

Louisiana College (18-9, 7-8 ASC): A solo home run by Chris Guidry in the top of the 11th gave the Wildcats a 7-6 win in Friday's series opener at UT Dallas (Apr. 4). It was Guidry's first home run of the season and capped a 3-for-4, two RBI day at the plate. He finished the UTD series batting .556 (5-for-9). . . . Louisiana College hosts East leader Mississippi College in a three-game series Friday and Saturday (Apr. 11-12).

Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-13, 10-8 ASC): Pitcher Stephen Oliver threw seven innings of shutout baseball in the Crusaders' 11-3 series-opening win vs. Sul Ross State last Friday (Apr. 4). Oliver struck out six and gave up one walk and four hits to move to 3-3 for the season. . . . UMHB went 3-0 vs. Sul Ross State for its second league sweep of the season (3-0 vs. Austin College, Mar. 7-8), pushing its season win streak to five games. . . . Jose Punetes was 6-for-9 in the SRSU series with two runs and two RBI.

McMurry (18-10, 11-7 ASC): The Indians won two of three at crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons last weekend to maintain third-place in the ASC West standings (Apr. 4-5). McMurry hosts #1-ranked Texas Lutheran in a key West match-up this weekend (Apr. 11-12). . . . Since a season-high three-game losing streak, McMurry has gone 8-3 in its last 11 games averaging 12.3 runs and 14.2 hits in the stretch. . . . Albert Carrizales had his 13-game hit streak snapped in the second game of the HSU doubleheader (Apr. 5). The Indians' top hitter (.419), Carrizales also had a string of nine multiple-hit games stopped last weekend. . . . Freshman Greg Erickson had a career-best six RBI vs. Hardin-Simmons in Saturday's second game. The right fielder went 8-for-14 (.571) with 10 RBI and three doubles over the series.

Mississippi College (19-6, 12-3 ASC): The Choctaws carry a seven-game win streak into Wednesday's non-conference game at Huntingdon. Since a March 8 doubleheader loss at McMurry, MC has won 14 of its 16 games including last weekend's three-game sweep of East rival LeTourneau (Apr. 4-5). . . . Bo Edmiston (5-1) collected wins in both of his starts last week. The right-hander pitched four shutout innings against LaGrange, holding the hot-hitting team to a pair of hits and a walk. Edmiston struck out three and allowed a walk in five scoreless innings vs. LeTourneau (Apr. 5). . . . Right-hander Jonathan Beacom improved to 5-1 with a three-hit complete-game win over LeTourneau in the series opener. Beacom struck out six and allowed no walks to drop his ERA to 1.77.

Ozarks (10-17, 5-13 ASC): First baseman Sean Pratt collected the first home run of his college career with a solo shot against East Texas Baptist last weekend. It was the freshman's second extra-base hit of the season. . . . The Eagles go against Central Baptist in a Tuesday (Apr. 8) non-conference game before hosting UT Dallas in a three-game league set on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 11-12).

Schreiner (7-19, 3-12 ASC): The Mountaineers look stop a conference losing skid when they host Sul Ross State in an ASC West series this weekend (Apr. 11-12). Schreiner has been swept in its last three league weekends (Texas Lutheran, Concordia-Austin and Howard Payne). . . . Travis Turner carries a team-best .404 batting average with 29 RBI and 12 extra-base hits.

Sul Ross State (5-25, 3-15 ASC): The Lobos road trip to Schreiner for a three-game West Division set vs. the Mountaineers on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 4-5). Sul Ross State will be looking to end a six-game losing streak that includes back-to-back 0-3 weekend ASC series. . . . Ryan Lavarell has 10 doubles and five home runs among his 31 hits.

UT Dallas (20-10, 12-6 ASC): The Comets won two of three games in a conference series for a third consecutive weekend when they swept Saturday's (Apr. 5) home doubleheader vs. Louisiana College. Two victories halted a season-long three-game losing streak. . . . UTD opens the week second in the ASC East standings with a trip to Ozarks on its Friday-Saturday schedule (Apr. 11-12). . . . Kevin McKnight picked-up his fifth win for the year (5-2) with a five-hit, 1-0 win over Louisiana College on Saturday. The pitcher rankes eighth in ASC ERA (3.24). . . . Caleb Chandler (.482) continues to hold onto the conference batting title, leading teammate David Widaski (.481) by .001 in the statistical listing.

Texas Lutheran (27-3, 13-2 ASC): The Bulldogs have struggled since earning the No. 1 ranking in the season's first ABCA/Collegiate Baseball national ranking, dropping three of four games including two against West Division rival Concordia-Austin (Apr. 4-5). . . . TLU's 31-game win streak ended on April 1 with a 10-2 loss at #7 Trinity. . . . John Krog tallied five RBI in the CUA series with three coming via a three-run home run in Saturday's 8-4 victory in the series finale. Krog hit .571 vs. the Tornados. . . . First-year lefty Brian Wallace picked up his fourth victory (4-0) with a six-hit effort against CUA.
