Choctaws Regional Bound Box Score

CLINTON,MS –An eighth inning explosion of eight runs helped the Choctaws (32-13) complete a doubleheader sweep of UT-Dallas (26-17) 15-4 to claim the 2003 American Southwest Conference Tournament Championship and earn a trip to a post season regional.

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, the Choctaws battled back with three runs in the third and fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. UT-Dallas pulled within 6-4 with a run in the fifth before the Choctaws scored one in the seventh and eight in the eighth inning. The big hits in the inning were back to back homeruns by Kent Chamblee and Trey Rein. Chamblee’s was a three run shot.

MC junior closer Dereck Tillman entered the game with two outs in the first inning and threw 5 1/3 strong innings allowing just one run on two hits to give the Choctaws bats time to heat up. Senior Bo Edmiston pitched the final three innings on just one day of rest to earn his first save of the season after throwing eight innings Thursday. The losing pitcher for UT-Dallas was Troy Kiesling.
