The Louisiana College baseball team continues its season with a berth in the 2003 National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Baseball Championships in Celina, Ohio, Wednesday through Saturday (May 14-17).
The Wildcats (26-15) are seeded seventh and open national tournament play Wednesday morning against 10th-seed Hillsdale Free Will Baptist (Okla.) LC did not play against Hillsdale during the regular season, but did post a 2-1 record against eighth-seeded Greenville College (Ill.).
Spring Arbor University (Mich.) is the No. 1 seed in the NCCAA Championship, followed by #2 Faulkner University (Ala.), #3 and defending NCCAA champ Bethel College (Ind.), #4 Dallas Baptist University, #5 Piedmont College (Ga.), #6 Indiana Wesleyan University and #9 Cedarville University (Ohio).
Louisiana College advanced to the 10-team national finals by upending American Southwest Conference rival LeTourneau University in the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament. LC came back from a 1-0 loss in the regional opener (May 6) to sweep LeTourneau in Wednesday's doubleheader, 4-2 and 4-3, to win the best-of-three series.
In the regional championship game, Louisiana College scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead, then held off a LeTourneau rally for a 4-3 victory. James Halle earned the win for LC with Scott Sumner notching a save.
