ASC Announces Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams

RICHARDSON, Texas----The American Southwest Conference announced today (Nov. 20) the 2003 All-Conference women’s soccer teams as selected by vote of the league’s head coaches.

Hardin-Simmons University, ASC West Division champion, placed four players on the All-Conference team and seven players on the West Division First-Team. HSU forward Erika Lay (El Paso, Texas) was voted West Offensive Player of the Year and defender Mollie Porter (Austin, Texas) named West Defensive Player of the Year. Cowgirls head coach Marcus Wood was chosen West Coach of the Year.

Texas Lutheran University swept the West Freshman of the Year awards with forward Casey Rheman (Houston, Texas) the Offensive and defender Amanda Almanza (San Antonio, Texas) the Defensive Freshman of the Year.

ASC East Division champion University of Texas at Dallas claimed two All-Conference and three East Division First Team awards. Austin College forward Tresy Ross (Midwest City, Okla.) was voted East Offensive Player of the Year. Three defenders shared East Defensive Player of the Year honors: Brooke Adair (Coppell, Texas), East Texas Baptist University; April Smith (Baton Rouge, La.), Mississippi College; and Colleen Walsh (San Antonio, Texas), Austin College.

Mississippi College forward Jennifer Benson (Baton Rouge, La.) was voted East Offensive Freshman of the Year while UT Dallas defender Crystal Sanders (Plano, Texas) and Colleen Walsh were co-East Defensive Players of the Year. Mississippi College head coach Darryl Longabaugh was voted East Division Coach of the Year.
