Haul-in National Diamond Awards

Three ASC student-athletes captured NCAA Division III national awards for their accomplishments on the diamond over the March 15-21 week. East Texas Baptist 3B James Morgan was selected Hitter of the Week and Texas Lutheran LHP Brian Wallace earned honorable mention National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Louisiana College RHP Sandi Clark collected National Player of the Week honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Morgan, who also earned ASC East Division co-Hitter of the Week honors, stretched his season-long hitting streak to six games by hitting 13-for-18 (.722) over five games during the March 15-21 period, including four multi-hit games. Already the Tigers season leader in hits, home runs and RBI, Morgan went 8-for-11 (.727) with seven runs, two doubles and four RBI in the weekend ASC East three-game sweep of Austin College that vaulted ETBU to the middle of the division race. Morgans best game came in the series finale on Saturday (Mar. 20) when he went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI in the 11-4 win over the Kangaroos.
Texas Lutheran LHP Brian Wallace, the ASC West Pitcher of the Week, set school and conference records for innings pitched in a game with an 11-inning, three-hit shutout of Schreiner (Mar. 20). Wallace and Schreiner pitcher Jake Thomas set the ASC record for most innings pitched in a game with 11. Wallace also set the TLU record for number of scoreless innings pitched in a single game (11 innings). The sophomore struck out 12 and walked three to improve to 4-1 and spark the Bulldogs to an ASC West series sweep of Schreiner with the 1-0 pitchers duel.
Morgan and Wallace are the second and third ASC baseball player honored by the NCBWA. Louisiana College P James Halle was selected co-National Pitcher of the Week for March 8-14 after tossing a no-hitter in the Wildcats ASC East series vs. Ozarks.
Right-hander Sandi Clark, the ASC East Pitcher of the Week, recorded back-to-back shutouts--the first a no-hitter and the second a perfect game--in leading Louisiana College to a four-game ASC East sweep of visiting Ozarks (Mar. 19-20). The sophomore struck out 11and allowed two walks in the complete game 7-0, no-hitter on Friday. On Saturday Clark against retired 11 batters via strikeout to post a 3-0 perfect game victory. Clark improved to 7-1 for the season with a 0.23 ERA. Clark was also named the state of Louisiana Collegiate Pitcher of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
