In addition to Jerrod Cook and Courtney Chaney, McMurry laid claim to a third first-place finish at the ACU/Oliver Jackson Open (Mar. 27). Cody Brotherton won the shot-put with a throw of 57-9 1/2. . . . Three individuals have earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships: Cook, hammer; Darcell Edwards, long jump and triple jump; and Cody Brotherton, shot put. . . . McMurry broke three school records at the ACU/OJ Open, including both hammer records (Chaney for the women at 141-11 and Cook for the men at 188-11) and the women’s 1500m run. Samantha Burgess ran a 5:05.77 for the 1500m record, bettering a mark that had stood for 22 years and was the oldest in the Lady Indians’ record book (set by Tonie McLanahan--5:17.3--at the 1982 TIAA Championships in Lubbock. . . . McMurry will have split teams at the Texas Relays and Tarleton State Relays this weekend.

Mississippi College freshman Matthew Manning ran a 4:13.32 time in the 1500 meter run to finish 21st at the Mississippi State University Invitational (Mar. 27). Manning was the third highest non-Division I athlete in the field finishing only behind two runners from Rhodes College. . . . Freshman Bridget Foreman finished 16th in the women's 100m dash, clocking a 12.37 for her fastest time of the year and just .03 seconds off the NCAA qualifying mark of 12.34. . . . MC is off this weekend and does not have a meet scheduled until April 9.

Texas Lutheran got both a school record performance from Natalie Wood at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational last Saturday (Mar. 27). Wood posted a 15.06 time in the 100-meter hurdles to place third and lowered the school mark by 0.14 seconds. Wood also won the high jump (4-8). . . . Samara Williams picked up three top three finishes on Saturday. The freshman ran a 12.53 in the 100m dash for second, and was third in the 200m (25.81) and 400m hurdles (1:05.03). . . . Vaulters Jessica Roderique and Amy Stephens each equaled the school pole vault record of 9-6 with Stephens second and Roderique third. . . .Tiffani Hoot recorded a lifetime best in the shot put with a toss of 39-4.5 inches. She placed second in the meet and moved within a foot of the school record (40-1). . . . Julie Sodolak finished second in the javelin with a throw of 95-6. . . . Texas Lutheran returns to competition on Thursday (Apr. 1) at the Tarleton State University Relays.
