Monday’s (Apr. 12) LeTourneau Men’s and Women’s Spring Classic and a dual match for Ozarks’ men close out the regular-season schedule for the American Southwest Conference golf teams. Following the open week, the ASC teams open the postseason at Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Texas, for the 2004 ASC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. . . . The men’s women’s NCAA Division III Golf Championships are scheduled the second week in May with the qualifying teams and individuals announced April 29 for the men and May 3 for the women.

The ASC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be played April 19-20 at the Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Texas. The conference event will be co-hosted by Hardin-Simmons and McMurry Universities. Both men and women will play a par 72 course with the men playing over 7,112 yards and the women 5,800 yards. Conference championship, individual medalist and All-Conference awards will be announced at the conclusion of the two-day event. . . . Diamondback Golf Course is located at 1510 E. Championship Notes: Mary Hardin-Baylor is four-time defending ASC women’s golf champions and Carrie Franciskovic returns to defend her individual conference title. . . . UT Dallas won the ASC Men’s Golf Championship last season. Michael Fraterkowski of Texas Lutheran, third a year ago, is the highest placing finisher from last season’s men’s meet returning.

Hardin-Simmons finished in third place as a team at the men’s West Region Invitational earning the squad’s third third-place finished in its last two tournaments against the best teams in the West. The Cowboys recorded rounds of 304 and 302 to finish with a 606. . . . Bryan Levrets played in his first tournament of the spring and auto qualified for a spot on the Cowboys’ ASC Championships team. HSU’s top two players from each tournament do not have to qualify for the next tournament. He shot a 74-77 to finish in a tie for 11th place in the District VI.

LeTourneau women placed fifth at the PAGA-UT Brownsville Invitational (Apr. 3-4). Veronica Crutcher finished in the Top 10 with a 36-hole 85-94--179 for 10th-place while teammate Katrina Visina claimed a tie for 15th with an 89-103--192. . . . The YellowJacket men carded a 317-296--613 for a fifth-place tie with Mary Hardin-Baylor at the West Region Invitational (Apr. 5). Doug Moorhead and Christian Sarran led the LeTourneau charge. Moorehead, who found himself 8-over par after three holes and played even-par over the last 33 holes, placed in a tie at 11th with an 80-71--151. Sarran landed in a tie at 19th with a 78-76--154. . . . Throughout the season, LeTourneau has consistently had the top-ranked freshman class in NCAA Division III according to GolfStat rankings.

The Mary Hardin-Baylor women finished third at the Northwood University Invitational on Tuesday (Apr. 6) and were the only non-scholarship school to play in the tournament. . . . The UMHB men finished in a tie for fifth at the rain-shortened West Region Invitational in Round Rock (Apr. 5). . . . The women had two players finish in the top three at Northwood with Julie Solomon taking second in a scorecard playoff and Karen Hudson finishing in a tie for third. Solomon posted rounds of 77-84--161 and her opening-round 77 matched Hudson for the tournament’s second lowest round.

. . . . Both UMHB golf teams are now off until the ASC Tournament.

McMurry claimed the team championship at the PAGA-UT Brownsville Invitational last weekend (Apr. 3-4) in Austin, Texas. Brittany Cary took home the individual title while Amy Morgan carded an 81-87--168 to finish in a two-way tie for fourth place. . . . The Lady Indians carded a 687 for the 36-hole event. . . . McMurry placed ninth in Monday’s West Region Invitational (Apr. 5), posting a 312-314--626. Colby Watts was the only Top 20 finisher among the individuals, carding a 79-73--152 to tie for 11th-place.

The Ozarks men shot an 18-hole 394 to finish behind Rhema Bible in the March 30 dual match. Brandon Schulterman led the Eagles with an 85.

Cameron Corbett shot a two-round 153 to finish tied at 16th--the best individual showing for the UT Dallas men at Monday’s West Region Invitational Invitational (Apr. 5). The Comets shot 319-315--634 to place 10th in the team standings. . . . Courtney Sewell was the top finisher for the UTD women at the PAGA-UT Brownsville Invitational Monday (Apr. 5). Sewell shot a 193 for the 36-hole event, placing 17th.

UT Tyler got a third-place individual finish from Melissa Vogt at the weekend PAGA-UT Brownsville Invitational (Apr. 3-4). Vogt shot rounds of 86-81--167 to finish four shots off runner-up Katy Williams of St. Edwards.

Josh Werland led Texas Lutheran to the team title at the men’s West Region Invitational in Round Rock on Monday (Apr. 5). Werland shot rounds of 72 and 73 and placed third overall. The Bulldogs won the important team title by strokes over the University of LaVerne (Calif.), finishing with 298-298--596 to lead the 12-team field.
