Complete Baseball, Softball Championship Fields Still To Be Determined
April 25, 2004

Three of the four berths in this weekend's 2004 American Southwest Conference baseball and softball championship tournaments have been filled with position number four in both playoffs to be determined through early week games.

Concordia-Austin, Mississippi College and UT Dallas each hold berths in the ASC Baseball Championship Tournament scheduled for Thursday through Saturday (April 29-May 1) at the site of the ASC West No. 1 seed. The East Division side of the field is complete with champion UT Dallas as the No. 1 East seed and Mississippi College the East No. 2 seed. Concordia-Austin won at least a share of the ASC West Division title, but whether the Tornados share that crown and host the conference playoffs is determined by the outcome of Monday's (Apr. 26) Schreiner at McMurry single-game.

If McMurry beats Schreiner, the Indians will share the West title with CUA and also claim No. 1 West seed and hosting honors by virtue of holding the tiebreaker vs. CUA. If Schreiner beats McMurry, Concordia-Austin claims the ASC West title outright as well as West No. 1 seed and tournament hosting. McMurry would tie Texas Lutheran for second-place in the ASC West, with TLU claiming West No. 2 seed by virtue of the tiebreaker vs. the Indians.

McMurry and Schreiner are scheduled to begin their nine-inning single game at 1:00 at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene.

East Texas Baptist, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Texas Lutheran each have spots in the ASC Softball Championship Tournament scheduled Friday and Saturday (April 30-May 1) at Southwest Park in Irving, Texas. Both tournament berths from the ASC West Division are filled. Texas Lutheran won its first-ever ASC West title and the division's No. 1 seed while Mary Hardin-Baylor claimed the West No. 2 seed. No. 2-ranked East Texas Baptist won the ASC East Division championship and East No. 1 seed. The East No. 2 seed comes down to either UT Dallas or No. 17-ranked Louisiana College.

UT Dallas (16-6 ASC) needs at least a split vs. ETBU to finish second in the division and claim a postseason spot with the East No. 2 seed. An ETBU sweep pushes Louisiana College (15-7 ASC) into second-place and into the conference tournament as East No. 2 seed.

Rain cancelled Louisiana College's regular-season doubleheader finale vs. Mississippi College on Saturday while ETBU at UT Dallas twinbill was postponed until Tuesday (Apr. 27, 1:00).
