  RICHARDSON,
Texas ---- Hardin-Simmons University senior defender Mollie
Porter (Austin, Texas/McNeil HS) and University of Texas
at Dallas junior forward Natalie Taylor (Midland,
Texas/Lee HS) were named players of the year and headline the list
of American Southwest Conference women’s soccer 2004 season
awards announced by the 14 conference head coaches on Thursday (Nov.
18).
The ASC Defensive Player of the Year, Porter
finished the regular-season with 13 goals with 10 assists (36 pts.).
Taylor, named the ASC Offensive Player of the Year, piled up 48 points
on 20 goals and 8 assists to lead UTD to a runner-up finish in the ASC
regular-season and tournament. The two were also All-ASC First Team
selections.
  A
pair of first-year ASC players were also honored by the conference
coaches. Mississippi College forward Kellie Kirby (Springdale,
Ark./SHS) was named ASC Offensive Freshman of the Year while
UT-Dallas defender Kelli Jackson (Tulsa, Okla./Union HS)
was named ASC Defensive Freshman of the Year. Both were also named to
the All-ASC First Team.
Hardin-Simmons head coach Marcus Wood was
named ASC Coach of the Year after leading the Cowgirls to the ASC
regular season and tournament titles.
