Four Returning All-Region Players Claim ASC Softball Preseason Accolades

RICHARDSON, Texas --- Four returning all-region players have been selected for 2005 American Southwest Conference softball preseason division honors in balloting conducted among the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

Christy Shipley Sandi Clark

ETBU's Christy Shipley (left) and LC's Sandi Clark were named the East Division's Preseason Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

East Texas Baptist sophomore shortstop Christy Shipley (Longview, Texas/Pine Tree HS) was picked as ASC East Preseason Player of the Year. As a first-year player in 2004, Shipley claimed NFCA All-America Third-Team, NFCA All-West Region First Team and ASC East Freshman of the Year honors. She led all conference batters with 64 hits and 51 RBI, finishing fifth in batting average at .427 (64-of-150) and second in stolen bases (22-of-23). Shipley claimed All-ASC and All-ASC East First Team awards.

Louisiana College right-hander Sandi Clark (Hineston, La./Oak Hill HS) was a unanimous selection as ASC East Preseason Pitcher of the Year. The junior compiled a 14-4 record over 18 appearances a year ago, posting conference bests in ERA (0.71) and strikeouts (160) to earn ASC East Pitcher of the Year, All-ASC and All-ASC East honors. Clark, who struck-out a conference record 19 batters vs. NCAA Div. I Southern University, was named to the NFCA All-Atlantic Region First Team. She was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI honoree.

Jennifer Pietrowski Amanda Stevens

UMHB's Jennifer Pietrowski (left) and TLU's Amanda Stevens were named the West Division's Preseason Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

Mary Hardin-Baylor first baseman Jennifer Pietrowski (Buda, Texas/BHS) was selected as ASC West Preseason Player of the Year. The junior was an NFCA All-America Third Team and NFCA All-West Region First Team pick, finishing the 2004 season ranked fifth in NCAA Div. III with 0.32 home runs per game (12 total). Pietrowski hit .404 with 44 hits, including 24 for extra bases, to earn all-conference and All-ASC West First Team honors. She was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI honoree.

Texas Lutheran left-hander Amanda Stevens (Sinton, Texas/SHS) was chosen as ASC West Preseason Pitcher of the Year. The senior was named to the NFCA All-West Region First Team last season after claiming both ASC West Division Player and Pitcher of the Year awards. Stevens made 28 appearances in the circle over 149.2 innings, compiling a 17-6 record, 1.12 ERA and striking-out 108 batters. The 17 wins were the most in the ASC in 2004. She was also a member of the ASC West First Team.
