WAVERLY, Iowa – Texas Lutheran head coach Kandice Holamon Erwin was named the 2005 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. She is one of eight women’s track and field coaches in NCAA Division III to receive a regional coaching award presented by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Erwin guided the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to the 2005 American Southwest Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship (a first for TLU) and coached six TLU student-athletes to berths in the 2005 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Championships. This year’s national outdoor championships are hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The championships are scheduled for competition Thursday through Saturday.

In addition to the 2005 conference title in women’s track and field, Erwin led TLU to three consecutive conference championships in women’s cross country. The Bulldogs are making their third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Erwin is completing her fourth year at Texas Lutheran as head coach for women’s cross country and women’s track and field. The national championships are the final TLU assignment for Erwin as she has been named head coach for women’s track and field at NCAA Division I University of Dayton.
