Clemmer Snags ITA NCAA Division III National Rookie of the Year Award

Taylor ClemmerMississippi College tennis player Taylor Clemmer has been selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the NCAA Division III Men’s National Rookie Player of the Year and tops a list of American Southwest Conference players and teams collecting ITA honors for the 2004-05 season.

Michael WardClemmer, who will be a sophomore at MC this fall, was also selected as the ITA Atlantic South Region Rookie Player of the Year after earning ASC East Division Player and Freshman of the Year honors. An all-conference and East Division First Team pick, Clemmer plowed through the conference schedule with an undefeated singles and doubles record against ASC opponents and won the ASC Individual Tournament in late February. Clemmer finished the year with an overall record of 22-1. He ranked No. 36 nationally and No. 9 in the Atlantic South in the season's final singles rankings. Clemmer and Michael Ward finished No. 8 in the Atlantic South Region doubles ranking.

David WuBrad GraceHardin-Simmons doubles combo Brad Grace and David Wu were each selected to the ITA All-America NCAA Division III team. The two all-conference and West Division award winners posted a No. 5 national and No. 2 West Region doubles rankings for the season, and helped HSU to a No. 22 national and No. 7 regional final team ranking. Wu, the ASC West Division Player of the Year, also finished the year ranked No. 52 on the national and No. 16 in the West Regional singles lists.

Three ASC women's tennis teams claimed spots in season-ending ITA rankings. Conference champion Hardin-Simmons ranked No. 15 in the national NCAA Division III ranking after landing the No. 5 spot in the West Region ranking. Texas Lutheran listed No. 16 in the West Region while Mississippi College grabbed the No. 14 place in the Atlantic South Region.

Caroline ScottStephanie HaynesThe Hardin-Simmons doubles team of Stephanie Haynes and Caroline Scott closed the season ranked No. 10 in the West Region. An all-conference and ASC West Division First Team pick who was named West Division Newcomer of the Year, Scott ranked No. 23 in West Region singles. Haynes, who earned ASC West Division Second Team honors, landed at No. 24 in the West Region singles ranking.
