Division Champions Picked to Repeat ASC Softball Titles in 2006

RICHARDSON, Texas --- American Southwest Conference Division softball champions Louisiana College and Hardin-Simmons University have been picked by the head coaches, sports information directors and select media to repeat their respective titles in the 2006 season in the preseason poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 24).
Defending conference champion Louisiana College claimed 15 of 16 first-place votes and totaled 111 points to top the seven ASC East Division teams. The Lady Wildcats won the ASC title and advanced to the NCAA West Region championship game a year ago, finishing 34-11.
Louisiana College was followed by East Texas Baptist (80 points), Texas-Tyler (77), Texas-Dallas (73, 1 first-place vote), Mississippi College (49), Ozarks (29) and LeTourneau (27) in the predicted order of finish in the ASC East Division.
Hardin-Simmons claimed the favorite label in the seven-team ASC West Division after earning 14 of 16 first-place votes and 110 points. The Cowgirls won their first-ever Division championship in 2005 and advanced to the ASC Softball Championship Tournament title game to end the year 32-9.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (89 points, 2 first-place votes) finished second to Hardin-Simmons in the ASC West voting. Howard Payne (75), Texas Lutheran (72), Concordia-Austin (49), Schreiner (35) and Sul Ross State (18) complete the predicted finish in the ASC West Division.
