RICHARDSON, Texas --- Four individuals, each an All-Division performer last season, have been selected for 2006 preseason American Southwest Conference baseball honors in balloting conducted among the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media.

University of Texas at Dallas junior outfielder Trent Elizondo (The Woodlands, Texas) was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year and Louisiana College senior right-hander James Halle (Pineville, La.) was selected as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year in the ASC East Division. In the ASC West Division, McMurry University senior outfielder/pitcher Greg Erickson (Fort Worth, Texas) claimed Preseason Player of the Year honors while Texas Lutheran University junior left-hander Kyle Newman (Victoria, Texas) was picked as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Elizondo finished the 2005 season as recipient of both the ASC East Player and Newcomer of the Year awards after pounding 46 hits, including nine home runs, and batting .548 against the East Division teams. Elizondo added ABCA All-West Region First Team and All-ASC East First Team awards to his list of season honors as he led Texas-Dallas to a berth in the ASC Baseball Championship Tournament series

The 2005 ASC East Pitcher of the Year, Halle posted a 5-2 record with 37 strikeouts in seven appearances vs. ASC East teams to help Louisiana College to a berth in the ASC Baseball Championship Tournament series. The All-ASC East First Team pick's 2.68 Division ERA was the best among ASC East pitchers.

One of the top utility players in the conference, Erickson was named the 2005 ASC West Player of the Year and earned a spot on the ABCA All-West Region and All-ASC West Second Teams. In ASC West games last season, Erickson batted .366 with 11 extra-base hits and 20 runs scored. On the mound, the senior was 4-3 with 36 strikeouts and a 4.33 ERA in ASC West games. He helped McMurry to a spot in the 2005 ASC Baseball Championship Tournament series.

Newman helped Texas Lutheran to both the conference and West Division championships and a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division III West Region Championship a year ago. An All-ASC West First Team pick as a starting pitcher, Newman recorded a 2.27 ERA and 4-0 record in six appearances against ASC West opponents, striking out 47 batters.
