Division Impresses on First Day of First Pitch Softball Tournament March 2, 2007 |

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas The East Division ruled the West on the opening day of the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament at Oran Good Park.
No. 11-ranked Louisiana College, East Texas Baptist, Mississippi College and Texas-Tyler all went 2-0 on Friday to help the East Division to a 9-5 advantage heading into Saturdays final slate. Howard Payne was the lone West Division team to begin with a 2-0 mark. Nine of the 14 games on Friday were decided by three runs or less. Mississippi College had two of them, defeating Texas Lutheran 1-0 and then topping Hardin-Simmons 3-0 both times using late home runs. The Lady Choctaws were the only squad in the 14-team field not to surrender a run. Texas-Tyler used a two-run bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Schreiner 2-1 and stay perfect on the season (9-0).
